Register for social housing at 18 even if you do not need it - the clock is the asset
Social-housing waitlists reward registration time: roughly one waiting point per year, with no maximum, and in popular regions the wait is 7-10+ years. So register the day you are eligible (commonly age 18) even with zero housing plans - you bank years you will cash in later, when you want to leave a costly room or you are on a low income. Register on your region's system (e.g. WoningNet), pay the small annual fee, and keep it active or you usually lose the time. A social home can sit 300-600 eur/month below market.
