Your deposit cannot be more than two months rent
A landlord may ask a maximum of two months of bare rent as a deposit, and must return it within fourteen days after you leave the place as agreed. If you are being asked for three months or more on a contract signed today, that is above the legal maximum. Contracts signed before 1 July 2023 could have a three month deposit, so an old contract is not automatically wrong.
