A photo is optional, and leaving it off is normal
No Dutch law requires a photo and it is not customary to include one. Recruiters who work with internationals say plainly that it is not expected. Some employers deliberately strip photos, names and ages before screening, a practice called anoniem solliciteren, to reduce bias. If you do include one it should be a plain professional headshot, never a selfie or a holiday photo. Leaving it off costs you nothing.

- Name a gap yourself in one line, rather than letting them wonder
- A motivation letter is usually expected, especially early in your career
- Write your CV in the language the vacancy is written in
- Two A4 pages maximum, and one page is fine
- Only mention nationality when it actually matters
- Leave out marital status, and you can leave out your date of birth
