Register at the gemeente within 5 days - the BSN is your entire Dutch identity, and a no-registration clause is worthless

Staying over 4 months? Register (inschrijven) at your gemeente within 5 days of arrival; this triggers your BSN, which you need for a job, bank, insurance, DigiD and allowances. Book the appointment the moment you land - slots can be weeks out. Bring passport, often a legalised/translated birth certificate, and proof of address. Your right to register is based on factual residence: a landlord clause forbidding you from registering is not enforceable, and it does not depend on other residents' consent - if a landlord refuses, that is a red flag you can still register around and report.
