Bijzondere bijstand: the gemeente pays your unexpected necessary bills
Hit with a necessary, unforeseen cost you cannot cover - urgent dental work, a replacement fridge, moving costs, a legal contribution - and the municipality can pay or lend it via special assistance (bijzondere bijstand). You do NOT need to be on welfare to qualify; it is widely under-claimed. Apply at your gemeente before or right after the cost; decision within 8 weeks. The cost must be necessary, special, unforeseen, and not reimbursable elsewhere; asset ceilings apply (often ~8,000 eur single / 16,000 family, set per gemeente).
