Get a BSN free via RNI - the key that unlocks working, banking and tax
You cannot legally be paid, open most banks, or file tax without a BSN. If you will live here under 4 months or are not yet registering with a municipality, you can still get a BSN fast and FREE by registering as a non-resident (RNI); registering with your gemeente (BRP) when you move in also gives you one. Fill the online form, get a QR code, and book an in-person appointment with your passport. 2026 gotcha: non-EU passport holders can currently use only the Breda and Venlo RNI counters, so book early.
